About

I’m Karen, a dedicated therapist with 25+ years of experience and an anxiety focus.

What comes from the heart, goes to the heart. -Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Hope is what brings you to therapy. Hope that things can get better, that you can find safety and acceptance and that you can find the way through. Beliefs, thoughts and emotions can distort the concept of who we are and what we need to feel at peace. My goal is to help you set intentions for action and help you pay attention to the process of change.

Working with me means that it is not just you trying to figure things on your own. It means you have a helper to keep you moving towards your goals. My promise is that I will bring my A game to each session and be fully present with you. You don’t have to do it alone.

We all want the same things: to be accepted and to be our genuine self. We want to know ourselves and how we fit into the world. We want to know that we make a difference. We want to be safe and loved.

Why me

Affordable & private therapy

In a difficult economy, I have kept my fees on the low and continue to work with insurance companies on your behalf. Mental health coverage should be a right, but until that time, I will continue to offer services that regular people can afford.

What you say in therapy stays in therapy unless you are reporting harm to yourself or others. Insurance has the ability to request the notes of your session. Many people choose to not use their insurance for this reason. I see mental health therapy much like physical therapy. In session, we talk about what is problematic for you and I recommend skills and activities for you to take home to practice. At home, you practice the skills and keep track of your progress. At the next session, we talk about how you did, adjust the skills and/or add new ones. There is time to process your concerns and what comes up between sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your First Session

In our first session, we will review the electronic paperwork that I send you. The paperwork consists of office policies, consent for treatment, intake information, insurance and credit card information. My goal is to give you tools on the first day so you can start getting relief as soon as possible. If you are using insurance, I will bill your insurance for you. It will take a few weeks to receive the paperwork back from your insurance company. I encourage you to contact your insurance company before we meet so you know how much they are going to pay.

In following sessions, we will sit together as you talk about what is important to you. When we reach a sticking point, we will stop and gently begin to untangle the thoughts, beliefs and emotions that are knotted. I will bring skills and techniques that are designed to change your perspective and bring more peace to your day-to-day life. Between sessions, you have the opportunity to practice the skills and apply what you have learned. When we meet again, we can discuss what has worked and what hasn't. We will at it until you find a way of living that continuously works for you.
